Abstract The fusion of sprawling, open-world RPG design with the portability of modern gaming hardware marks a pivotal shift in how players experience long-form narratives. This paper examines The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s Nintendo Switch release — particularly NSP updates and DLC — as a case study in adapting expansive single-player experiences to portable platforms. It argues that technical compromises, distribution formats, and community practices around NSP files shape both accessibility and preservation, while also prompting new questions about platform policy, modding, and player agency.
