Users often need to extract only the APK component—for example, to install via adb , analyze the app, or modify it. This has led to the emergence of that claim to convert XAPK to APK without any software installation.
The XAPK format, introduced by APKPure and adopted by several third-party app distributors, is a container for Android application bundles that include the base APK file along with OBB (Opaque Binary Blob) expansion data. While efficient for distributing large apps, XAPK files are not natively recognized by the Android operating system or the Google Play Store. This paper examines the concept of —web-based tools that extract the core APK from an XAPK package without requiring local software installation. We analyze the technical architecture of such converters, evaluate their security implications, assess conversion accuracy, and compare them with offline alternatives. Findings indicate that while online converters offer convenience, they pose significant privacy and integrity risks, and their effectiveness depends heavily on the complexity of the XAPK structure.
