Formed in 1984 from the remains of the band City Kidd, Tesla’s sound was heavily influenced by 1970s rock giants like Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith. While often lumped in with "hair metal" due to their era, their music was more deeply rooted in traditional hard rock and blues. They were pioneers of the acoustic movement; their 1990 live album Five Man Acoustical Jam is widely credited as a catalyst for the "unplugged" trend that dominated the 1990s.
